Houston Dynamo shotstopper Tyler Deric has been suspended by MLS soccer after being arrested in connection to an alleged domestic incident last week.
Deric, the reigning MLS Player of the Month, was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor assault in connection to an alleged domestic incident, according to court documents. The 29-year-old is accused of “unlawfully, intentionally and knowingly (causing) bodily injury” to a woman with whom he’s had a dating relationship, by striking her with his head.
MLS has suspended Deric, pending investigations by MLS and the Houston Police Department, ruling him out of Sunday’s playoff game against the Portland Timbers FC. The league said it would remain in contact with local law enforcement, the team and the players’ union.
We take these matters very seriously and are working closely with Major League Soccer and local authorities, the Dynamo said in its statement. “We support the League’s decision to suspend the player pending further investigation. The club will have no further comment until the investigation into this alleged incident is complete.”
Deric posted $1,000 bond and was released from jail Wednesday.
