Black Cats goalkeeper Jason Steele has been picked as the Championship’s best goalkeeper in October despite getting dropped for its final game

He ended it dropped to the bench, but according to the statisticians, Sunderland’s Jason Steele was the Championship’s best goalkeeper in October.

The 27-year-old from Newton Aycliffe conceded six goals in three games during the month and was cheered ironically every time he caught the ball in the final hour of the last of them, at home to Bristol City.

He was dropped for the visit of Bolton Wanderers, which proved to be Simon Grayson’s final match as manager.
